The Department of Hematology & Rheumatology
1. Introduction to the Department 
The Department of Hematology and Rheumatology (DHR) is a comprehensive center for the diagnosis and treatment of hematologic and rheumatologic diseases in Zhuhai and surrounding areas. It is one of the earliest departments specializing in hematological malignancy chemotherapy and the only center specializing in rheumatic treatment in Zhuhai. The department currently has 22 doctors and nurses, including 1 professor and 2 associate chief physicians. The department now has 42 beds, including 2 beds of laminar flow wards for bone marrow transplantation and 4 simple laminar flow wards for disease observation. 

2. Diagnosis and Treatment
The diseases diagnosed and treated by DHR include:
(1) Hematopathy: anemia, myelodysplastic syndrome, acute & chronic leukemia, chronic myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPNs), lymphoma, multiple myeloma, etc.
(2) Rheumatism: systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis, systemic sclerosis, Sjogren syndrome, vasculitides, polymyositis, dermatomyositis, gout, etc.

The institute can provide individualized and comprehensive treatment for various hematopathies and rheumatism: (1) chemotherapy and Immunotherapy; (2) autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (auto-HSCT) for lymphoma, multiple myeloma, severe rheumatism, etc. (3) HLA-matched or mismatched allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) for leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome, etc. We have successfully accomplished auto-HSCT in a malignant lymphoma patient with favism first in China. We have also performed auto-HSCT in treating patients with severe rheumatism since 2003. (4) The therapeutic hemapheresis and plasma exchange have been used in HSCT, leukostasis, MPNs, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, rheumatism, etc.

3. Research areas
The institute's research interests are in the cross areas between hematology and rheumatology, including the immunologic mechanism of leukemia and auto-HSCT for rheumatism. Recently, the institute has focused on the JAK2 gene effect in hematopoietic failure disease.

Research Directions
1. Clinical interests mainly in the comprehensive and personalized treatment of hematopathy and rheumatism: hematological diseases, chemotherapy and immunotherapy, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, rescue for severe rheumatism. She has accomplished allo-HSCT for hematological malignancies and auto-HSCT for severe rheumatism first in Zhuhai.
2. Research interests recently include: 1) Relationship between bone marrow stromal cells and hematopoietic stem cells; 2) JAK2 gene’s effect in hematopoietic failure disease.

He is especially proficient in therapeutic hemapheresis and plasma exchange, which play an important role in hematologic diseases (bone marrow transplantation, chronic myeloproliferative neoplasms, cytostasis, etc.) and rheumatologic diseases (thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, severe systemic lupus erythematosus, acute liver failure, myasthenia gravis, etc.).
