In order to attract top talents, the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of SYSU covers all expenses, from scientific research funds to allowance, the latter of which may reach 180,000 yuan annually for full-time workers, and 240,000 yuan for part-time Special Post Professors. Recently, the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of SYSU employed another fresh batch of Special Post Professors. It isreported that 14 renowned full-time experts and 12 Special Post Professors have been employed so far this year, and the number of employees with a doctorate has surged from 77 last year to 106.


The Measures for the Implementation of Introducing High-level Talents of the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of SYSU is set for high-level talents; academicians; finalists of the Recruitment Program of Global Experts of the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the CPC; finalists of the Changjiang Scholars Program of the Ministry of Education; awardees of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars of National Natural Science Foundation of China; chief scientists or principal investigators of the major research plan of the National Natural Science Foundation of China; finalists of the Pearl River Scholar Funded Scheme; renowned professors, experts in senior positions, doctoral advisors and noted clinical specialists employed by well-known colleges and universities in China and abroad. The hospital has mainly introduced academic pacesetters that are urgently needed for the development of the hospital, and key members in academia with strong innovation capability. They are offered full-time positions in the hospital or contracted as part-time special-post professors.

 

As seen in related documents, the pay for part-time special-post professors is as follows: 240,000 yuan for academicians, 180,000 yuan for Changjiang scholars and the finalists of the Recruitment Program of Global Experts, and no less than 120,000 yuan for the rest. As for the full-time faculty, academic pacesetters can receive 1.5 million-yuan scientific research funds for three consecutive years in total, a 90 to 120 m2 temporary house, and usufruct of a house after five years of employment. Besides the regular salaries and bonuses, these full-time high-level talents can get an annual allowance of 100,000 to 180,000 yuan.


A recently employed expert, Zhang Hui, PhD in microbiology and immunology, doctoral advisor, Deputy Dean of Zhongshan School of Medicine, SYSU, is one of the finalists of the Recruitment Program of Global Experts of the Organization Department of the Communist Party of China. He has long engaged in the research of molecular biology of HIV and in antiviral drug development. His research group has achieved a series of accomplishments and succeeded in developing new anti-HIV drugs.


The Fifth Affiliated Hospital of SYSU is generous not only toward new talents, but also for staff training in the hospital. Its Project Phoenix sends outstanding employees abroad for further study every year, and provides them with transportation expenses and a monthly subsidy of 8,000 yuan, as well as their basic salaries.
